Lucian Matis has long left behind the moniker of “Project Runway finalist” and come into his own as a talented designer with, as I’m sure those judges would be happy to know, a great point of view.
His dresses are notoriously feminine, featuring floral influences, flowing layers and couture-esque styles. Stunning, season after season.
Matis showed his Spring/Summer 2012 offering to a packed house of rain-bravers. The collection was big and bright with a touch of risqué nudes and sheers; details came in the form of flower appliqués, metalic studs and striking woven fabrics. The result was flirty and fun, but ever-so-sexy.
The yellows were my favourite, a great colour for spring and a lovely showcase of Matis’ skill and attention to detail. The teal gown and finale piece offered the kind of red carpet flair that makes you wish every day was an awards ceremony.
99 Sudbury, the ever-more popular event space, offered a great canvas for the show. White walls and bright lights allowed the clothes to stand on their own without any distractions. And with clothes this beautiful, one couldn’t have asked for a better setting.
Now, to plot how to get my hands on some of those samples. Who’s in for a garden party birthday celebration next summer?
